What Is Today's Islamic Date?
Today's Islamic date — also called the Hijri date — is the current date in the Islamic lunar calendar used by over 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. This page shows the live Islamic date, updated automatically every minute using astronomical calculation.
The Islamic (Hijri) calendar consists of 12 lunar months. Each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon, making each month 29 or 30 days. The Hijri year is approximately 354–355 days, about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why Islamic dates shift roughly 11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar.
Islamic Date Today in Pakistan
In Pakistan, the Islamic Hijri date is used for all religious observances, including Ramadan fasting, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Muharram, and other Islamic occasions. The date displayed above reflects the global astronomical Hijri calendar. For official religious rulings in Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee issues moon sighting announcements that may differ by one day from the calculated date shown here.
Pakistan observes the same Hijri calendar as Saudi Arabia and the broader Muslim world, with minor regional differences for moon sighting. The current Islamic date for Pakistan is shown live at the top of this page.
How Is the Hijri Date Calculated?
The Hijri calendar (Anno Hegirae – AH) began in 622 CE when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated from Makkah to Madinah — an event known as the Hijra. Year 1 AH corresponds to 622 CE. Each Hijri year has 12 months based on the lunar cycle. The calculation shown on this page uses the Tabular Hijri method, a standardized astronomical algorithm used by Islamic scholars and institutions.
The 4 Sacred Months in Islam
Islam designates four months as sacred (Al-Ashhur Al-Hurum): Muharram (1st), Rajab (7th), Dhu al-Qi'dah (11th), and Dhu al-Hijjah (12th). During these months, fighting was historically prohibited, and acts of worship are considered more spiritually significant.
Islamic Date vs Gregorian Date – Key Differences
The Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar with fixed 365-day years. The Islamic Hijri calendar is a purely lunar calendar with 354–355 day years. As a result, Islamic dates move 10–12 days earlier each Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan and Eid fall in different seasons across a 33-year cycle.
